Saltrock Colony Supreme Commander official skirmish map | |
Max Players | 6 |
Size | 10x10 km |
The only viable land located in a vast sea, the Colony has seen more than its fair share of war. Now deserted, Commanders still come to determine who can claim Saltrock Colony. |
Saltrock Colony is a 6 player official map for Supreme Commander and Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Players spawn on the outskirts of the island with a close next door neighbor or ally depending on how you configured alliances and enemies. There are 5 mass points and a shoreline within the rush boundry, which allows early naval expansion. Creating an early naval factory is needed since the sea surrounding the island means naval attacks by opponents is guaranteed. There are some civilians in the center to either hinder or help your progress advance toward enemy lines. This map is a rushing map and is also the smallest official 6 player map in the game at 10km.
Strategy[]
A good strategy for this map is to build some factories (about 3-4 to start) and starting pouring out T1 units in almost a constant spam to hold your line. While that is going on, upgrade 1 of your factories to T2 and pump out T2 units to further harass your opponent. Around when you hit Tech 2, you should look to start a naval base if you haven't done so already. If you neglect building a naval factory somewhere on this map, you will likely lose unless you're playing against an easy AI or an inexperienced player. With the naval factory constructed, build a lot of subs so you don't have to worry about destroyers or cruisers coming around early on. An air factory is also recommended because a lot of players will sometimes forget the need to use air units on this map because of the emphasis on land and water. If you see your opponent neglecting air and not building any defense for air units, if you do it right, you can have him down in a hurry. Once you have a base, naval superiority, and a little bit of air defense at a minimum, you should try and take center map with land units. If you do this, most players will send units to confront the army instead of sending them to your base. This will give you some time to tech up further and possibly put some point defense, artillery, or anti-air in the center map thus hindering them further. Once you hit tech 3, (if you even get that far) how you play it is up to you.
