This section of the wiki is the starting point for people who want information on creating a mod. As of now (June 23, 2007) this process is difficult but becoming easier for an inexperienced modder. Detailed information is still somewhat scarce, GPG has not yet released official modding tools, and to create assets you need skills with various graphical and 3D applications like Adobe Photoshop, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, and Blender. Unit creation tutorial(s) are available now and cover the coding portion of getting a new unit into the game.
