The Aeon T3 AA Gunship, nicknamed the Restorer, is an Aeon air unit. Its pair of dual barreled Zealot missiles make it a powerful AA unit.
The Restorer is a flexible gunship unit. While it has strong AA, it is less mass efficient than either of the Broadsword or Wailer in the air-to-ground role, bearing half as damaging weapons and yet still at 75% of the price. In a pinch it can still cause damage to ground targets, but this lower air-to-ground DPS means it is extremely mass inefficient compared to its factional counterparts. Where possible, it is more efficient to build either strategic bombers or many more T2 Specters for this purpose.
Similarly it does the work of two Corona ASFs, and even while energy efficient (and so good for the early T3 air stage when power is lacking), the Restorer is three times the price in mass. If the enemy is known and both of the AA and ground attack roles are not needed at the same time, it may be better to build the more specific unit which is adapted to the enemy force.
Compared in combat against the other T3 gunships, it is significantly cheaper and is quicker to build than the other two, as well as being very quick. However despite the higher HP (1200 HP more than the Broadsword), the Restorer will lose the fight and should use the speed advantage to run away, as the AA weapon does not make up for the lost damage on the primary gun.
In short, while a convenient unit, the Restorer is not suited to all engagements, and may not be as economically viable as they first appear.
Strategies[]
Most Aeon commanders would quickly release these hard hitting Restorers once they reach T3 for their Air Factories.
The first instinct is to send a couple of ASFs to deal with their approach but that is an ill-suited strategy as one alone can deal with two of them. The more expensive solution would be to send in a swarm to counter larger groups.
Other measures include using ground-to-air defenses, especially T3. Their range far exceeds those of the Restorer and could even snipe them out of the air, while aided by Radar.
When dealing with large swarms, a combination of T2 air defenses, mobile AA and T3 ASFs would be an excellent defense solution as it helps thin out the Restorers' ranks before they have a chance to attack.
Another solution would be to dispatch your own T3 Gunships to attack it. While it has a better chance against Broadswords, it may not survive a one on one fight with a Wailer given to its jamming capabilities, AA missile system and pulse laser.
Against an enemy fully-repaired Restorer, the chips are down to the one who usually attacks first.
